Tired Of Your Nightly Neck Pain? Control It With These Tips

If your neck pain is so severe that it keeps you sleeping at night, find ways to control it. Severe back pain can develop from spinal injuries, auto accidents, and even working long shifts during the day. The pain can strike at any given time, including at night. Don't allow your neck pain to keep you up at night. Find ways to control it with the tips below.

Use the Right Pillow

If you haven't invested in the right pillow, it's probably a good time to do so. The right pillow can help you sleep better at night as well as ease your neck pain. Sleep regenerates the cells in your muscles, ligaments, bones, and joints. These delicate tissues in your neck can hurt worse if your head and spine aren't properly aligned when you lie down in bed.

The right pillow should cradle your head and support the curvature of your neck. Your spine and hips should also remain in perfect alignment when you lie on your back or sides. You may need try out a couple of pillows before you find the right one.

If you continue to experience pain in your neck after switching pillows, consult with a chiropractor.

Consult With a Chiropractor

A chiropractor can help you find the real reason for your nightly neck pain. Sometimes, old injuries can come back to aggravate you. Arthritis or joint inflammation may also be a reason for your neck pain. Some of these problems can be worse at night, especially if they cause the tissues in your neck and spine to swell.

A chiropractor will generally perform several diagnostic exams on your neck and back. The exams allow a specialist to design or develop the right treatment plan for you, which may include spinal manipulation and soft-tissue therapy. It's important to relieve or release pressure and tension from the bones of your neck and spine.

You may need to take physical therapy during your treatment. A therapist may show you how to relieve your pain at night with light exercises. The exercises involve stretching the upper body tissues, which alleviates tension and stress.

You should follow a chiropractor's orders as instructed. Neck pain can potentially lead to headaches and migraines. If you experience any of these issues, tell a chiropractor immediately. You may need additional treatment to overcome the problems.

To obtain treatment for your nightly neck pain, contact a chiropractor, such as at Gerleman Chiropractic Office,  right away.
